1971–1979:
Type-approved vacuum tube models: 6P14P, 6P15P, 6P17P, 6C16, 6BK4, 6J8P, 6P16P, 6P18P, 6N18P, FU-811, 6C41P, etc.
1980–1985:
Type-approved vacuum tube models: EL34A, 6P16PA, 6T51, 6T50 (7092), FU-812, GL-211, 2A3, etc.
Notably: In 1980, the 6P16P vacuum tube was awarded the Silver Medal by the State Economic Commission of China and the National Defense Industry Office of the State Council.
1986–1991:
Type-approved vacuum tube models: KT88, 6550, 572B, 50CA10, etc.
1991–1995:
Type-approved vacuum tube models: 300B, 5AR4, 6L6WGB, 300BC, KT94, etc.
Notably: The “Shuguang Golden Dragon” 300B vacuum tube received the Quality Honor Certificate authorized by the Queen of England.
1996–1999:
Type-approved vacuum tube models: EL156, KT77, KT66, etc.
Interim upgrade: In 1998, product revisions were carried out for models such as 300B, KT88, 6550, and 6L6, which were re-engineered into the current flagship products: 300B-98, KT88-98, 6550-98, and 5881A.

Global History of Vacuum Tube Development
The vacuum tube (also called “electron tube” or “thermionic valve”) stands as one of the most transformative inventions in human history—ushering in the era of electronics and paving the way for the modern information age.
🌅 I. The Birth of the Vacuum Tube (1904–1910)
The story begins at the turn of the 20th century with the convergence of physics discoveries:
1904 – British physicist John Ambrose Fleming invented the Fleming Valve, a two-electrode diode capable of rectifying radio signals, based on Edison’s earlier observation of thermionic emission (the “Edison Effect”). This is widely regarded as the first practical vacuum tube.
1906 – American inventor Lee De Forest added a third electrode—a control grid—between the cathode and anode, creating the Audion (triode). This revolutionary device could not only rectify but also amplify weak electrical signals, making long-distance telephony, radio broadcasting, and all modern electronics possible.
💡 De Forest’s triode is often called “the soul of the vacuum tube era”—without amplification, there would be no radio, no television, no radar, and no early computers.
📻 II. The Golden Age of Radio & Mass Commercialization (1910–1930)
The 1920s witnessed the explosion of radio broadcasting, driving vacuum tube technology into millions of households:
Vacuum tube radios became the centerpiece of family entertainment.
Manufacturers like RCA, Western Electric, Philips, Marconi, and others mass-produced tubes in countless varieties.
Key innovations included the tetrode (four-element) and pentode (five-element) tubes, offering higher gain and better frequency response.
The introduction of indirectly heated cathodes allowed tubes to operate on AC power rather than batteries, dramatically reducing costs and boosting adoption.
By the late 1920s, a typical radio receiver contained 5 to 10 vacuum tubes, and the global tube industry had become a massive commercial enterprise.
⚡ III. Wartime Acceleration & The Computing Revolution (1930–1950)
Two World Wars and the dawn of computing pushed vacuum tube technology to its zenith:
The Radar & Microwave Era
1939–1945: WWII created unprecedented demand for high-power transmitting tubes, microwave tubes (klystrons, magnetrons), and precision radar components.
The cavity magnetron, co-invented by British scientists, enabled compact, high-power microwave radar—a turning point in the war.
Tubes like the famous 807, 813, 838 became legends in RF and radar applications.
The First Computers
The ENIAC (1945), the world’s first general-purpose electronic computer, used approximately 18,000 vacuum tubes and weighed 30 tons.
Other early computers—EDVAC, UNIVAC, IBM 701—were all built entirely on vacuum tube logic.
During this era, the quality and reliability of tubes improved dramatically, with industrial giants like Western Electric, RCA, Sylvania, Mullard, Telefunken, and Tesla competing for dominance.

Parallel to computing, vacuum tubes became the heart and soul of audio amplification:
Guitar Amplifiers: Brands like Fender (Tweed, Blackface), Marshall, Vox, Mesa Boogie built their iconic sounds on tubes such as 6V6, 6L6, EL34, EL84, 12AX7, KT66, KT88.
Hi-Fi Audio: Audiophiles revered the warm, natural distortion characteristics of triodes like 300B, 2A3, 845, and pentodes like EL34, KT88.
Recording Studios: Tube microphones (like the Neumann U47) and tube compressors became industry standards still coveted today.
🎵 To this day, no solid-state device has fully replicated the musical warmth of a well-designed vacuum tube amplifier—this is why tubes survive in the audio world.
📉 V. The Transistor Revolution & The Decline (1947–1970)
1947 – Bell Labs scientists John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley invented the transistor at Bell Telephone Laboratories. This tiny, reliable, power-efficient device would eventually replace the vacuum tube in nearly all applications.
1950s–1960s – Transistors rapidly took over consumer electronics, portable radios, and eventually computers. The IBM 1401 (1961) was among the last major computers designed with tubes; by the mid-1960s, transistors dominated.
Reasons for tube decline:
